Based on a Facebook question by my friend and blog follower Kyle, he asked a great question:
Why ask a question that you already know the answer to?
Well, I responded that it's a pet peeve of mine so rather than spill my drama on FB, guess what? I have my blog now :-). Anyway, the question reminded me of a Manager who would ask me questions to get confirmation. But mostly, to pimp my mind; To "Knowledge Pimp" me. (don't go stealin' my new phrase. it's mine.)Anyhoo, my Manager would attend these Managerial meetings and discuss the knowledge I dropped to my Manager already. I guess the mission was to look like the authority on the subject matter but on my expense. I gets no recognition, I gets no credit, I gets no thank you, and I gets no luv. Not cool.
Well, someone once shared with me that one of the duties of an employee is to make your Manager look good. That there should be rewards for that. It displays team work. Well, I say "Ain't nobody gone Knowledge Pimp me no mo without giving me my money! " awwwwwwww Don't let me break out with the DJ Quick jam on ya. LOL
I appreciate your thoughts about knowledge pimpin'! I too have been Knowledge pimped and I'm not going to let it happen anymore. Everyplace that I have worked, I have been if not the then one of the sharpest tools in the shed. So I would always come up with ideas to make my manager look good or make my organization run more efficiently. Was I ever compensated? Nooooooo! Was I ever given credit? Nooooooo! Was I even given more respect? Nooooooo! Therefore, those days are over. Unfortunately, I will be just be another employee. As much as that hurts me to be regular or an average employee, my experience has forced me to become just that.
ReplyDeleteKyle, I feel your pain and so do so many other people. After i left posted that I was talking to a friend via phone who expressed in so many words that companies promote the weak and try to weaken the strong. The strong, those who put in the long hours and provide insight are the first to be let go or simply leave.
